Lely Model

This model was completed in January 2011 in the Lakoya neighborhood in Lely. I was asked to use a yellow color story…I wanted the home to feel spacious and open, with lots of room for family and friends.

The living room features a linen covered sectional from Arhaus. I had fabulous custom pillows made for colorful touches. My favorite pattern was the bright Gerber daisy floral stripe. I selected an updated chocolate brown linen damask for the draperies in the living room, another hit with the guests on the many home tours the model was featured on.

I used a yellow Ikat fabric for the dining room chairs, which are from my friend Lillian August’s collection for Hickory White. The two vividly colored Buddha paintings were done by my friend Jackie Morelisse, a Naples artist.

A fun touch for visiting grandchildren, in the kitchen I upholstered the chair seats with a different sea creature for each chair…an octopus, a sea turtle, a crab and a tropical fish on the chair seats allow each grand child to pick their favorite.

The study has the old world feeling of Havana, I can picture Ernest Hemingway writing here. Dark plantation shutters add to the vintage tropical feeling. The desk is from Red Egg, and I had it custom painted in a tortoise shell pattern for an exotic element. Another wonderful element is the patterned dhurrie rug…patterned rugs can bring visual interest to rooms that have mostly wood furniture.

The Master Bedroom has the feeling of a classic Palm Beach estate home…dark wood floors, elegant white draperies banded with turquoise linen, exquisite Italian pillow shames and a bed from David Francis, a well-know Florida furniture designer. The modern Everglades painting was also painted by Jackie Morelisse.

In the guest bath I continued the classic Palm Beach feeling with a trellis-patterned wallpaper and exotic accents. The small Plantation shutter in the shower window is actually a water-proof synthetic wood. I love the bamboo rod for the shower curtain! Twin beds and a the orange desk in the kids’ guest room are also from Red Egg.
